Notices being sent out by INDOR
The Indiana Department of Revenue is currently having a difficult time processing certain 2010 Indiana income tax returns and it is taking them a long time to process tax refunds that are mailed out to taxpayers in the regular mail.
The Indiana Department of Revenue is also sending out a large number of tax notices that start with the following heading:
Dear taxpayer,
We have received your tax return and wish to inform you of inconsistencies we discovered as it was being processed.
Between the three CPA’s in our Fort Wayne, Indiana office we have looked at ten of these notices for our clients in the last six weeks. All ten of these notices noted inconsistencies that were not valid and in all ten cases the Indiana individual income tax returns were correct as originally filed.
The Indiana Department of Revenue is definitely having “some issues” with its software and is sending out a large number of notices that are pointing out inconsistencies that are not inconsistencies at all because the tax returns were correct as filed!
If you are one of our clients and get one of these notices please send us a copy of the notice within a couple of days of receipt by email, fax, regular mail, or just drop it off at our Fort Wayne office!
If you are not one of our clients and need assistance with a notice you receive from a taxing agency please send us an email!
Mike Sylvester, CPA
